How to Choose the Right Window

When you are on the point of replacing your windows, choosing the right one becomes a big task.  For your convenience, we have listed down factors that you should consider when you are choosing the right window for your house or your room.

  1. Material quality will play a decisive role in the performance and lifespan of your new windows. Different window types for you to choose from are wood, vinyl, composite, aluminum and fiberglass

  1. Check the R Value. R Value measures a window’s resistance to heat flow. 1. Since we have mentioned that one of the main benefits that a window brings is to add aesthetics to your home, then choosing the color will make a huge difference.

  1. Although it might not be a thing for you to sell your house right now as you are just in the process of building it, you still need to look at the bigger picture and see the future. There will come a time that the possibility of selling it will come and then you will have to think of the return of investment.

  1. Purpose of the window. While the basic function of windows are to let in light they can also serve as a doorway – as in a sliding glass window door for access to a porch for example or they can be fixed and ornamental just for aesthetics. Consider which rooms your windows will serve and if view is essential or is light into a dark space more essential as in a closet or pantry space. Consider using solar tubes that extend from the roof or a side wall to let light into dark spaces if a window isn’t feasible.

Basic Materials when Replacing your Door

In previous articles we have discussed when a door needs a replacement.  We  have also discussed how to actually do it and this article will give us an idea of the basic materials needed when replacing the door. Please visit https://www.holcombedoorandwindow.com for more details

  • Leveler to make sure that everything stays level. This is important because if the door doesn’t stay leveled then there will be problems with the door in the future.  It will show tilted which will then affect the aesthetics and then in the future will be the presence of the other problems.
  • Caulk to fix the insulation and framing in place.
  • Hammer and nails, nail set, screwdriver (depends on the nails holding your old door in place) to remove the old door and put on the new door. These will be used when the door needs to be temporarily put in place while you check the rest of the measurements and make sure that the new door will fit.
  • Tape measure or ruler to measure the old and new doors and frames. Measurement when dealing with old and new doors is very essential.  This will ensure that the new door you will put is off the same measurement as the old one.  It is important to know that if you put a bigger sized door that it will certainly not fit and you have to make more adjustments.  If a smaller sized one is placed, then there will be spaces where air can get out or come in into your home.
  • Insulation to make it so those winter winds don't start whipping around your door.
  • Wood shims to hold the door at the right level, if needed.

Like what we have always mentioned, these are all the materials that you needed to prepare if you are opting to fix your door DIY.  If you are hesitant and feel that someone else can do a better job then go ahead and call your professionals.
